Now based in Hudson, New York, Gibson is known for integrating indigenous craft traditions such as beadwork, fringe and drum-making with contemporary materials and references to pop culture, fashion and queer identity. His work explores themes of cultural hybridity, resilience and self-determination, often incorporating phrases and slogans that speak to empowerment and collective memory. In 2024, Gibson made history as the first Indigenous artist to represent the United States with a solo exhibition at the Venice Biennale, presenting the space in which to place me, a show that honors Native individuals and communities who preserved their traditions despite adversity and reclaims space through a vibrant, ceremonial visual language.
